Storm-ready openings

Shutters nobody can lift don't protect anyone.

Panels are heavy, and the person closing them is often the person who lives there. We choose shutters, doors and windows by who will close them and what your wind zone asks for, and put it in writing.

What's included

  • Windows and doors installed to the manufacturer's Florida Product Approval for your wind zone

  • Rolling, accordion or hinged shutters with a crank or a motor

  • Lanai and sliding doors with a threshold you can cross

  • Entry thresholds that shed wind-driven rain

  • A battery light and an outlet in the room where you'll shelter

  • Hardware you can work with one hand

What changes the cost

We don't print a price for this work. These decide the number you'll get in writing.

  • The wind zone and the product approval

Your address decides what a product must be tested for. The permit office checks the approval number before it passes the job.

  • How many openings, and how big

A lanai slider costs far more than a bathroom window. We count every opening at the walk-through.

  • The lead time

Made-to-order units take weeks. That's why we start these jobs well before the season.

  • Insurance paperwork

Some insurers ask for a wind mitigation inspection. A separate licensed inspector does that, not us. Ask your agent what they want.

  • Association approval

Many associations approve shutter color and style before anything is ordered.

How it goes

  1. 01

Step 1: Count and measure every opening

Doors, windows, the slider and the garage, one by one.

  2. 02

Step 2: Choose by who will close them

We have you try a sample's handle or crank before you decide.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Order, permit, install

The permit goes in, the units are made, and we set them in a day or two per opening group.

  4. 04

Step 4: Close every one in front of us

We don't leave until you've closed each one yourself.

Questions about this work

Will this make the house hurricane-proof?

No house is. These changes reduce what wind and water can do, and they make closing up easier. We don't promise a result in a storm.

Do you build screen enclosures?

We repair the framing and finish around them. Lanai and pool cages are built by screen-enclosure specialists, and we'll tell you who we'd call.
