Stairs, rails and lighting
Rails on both sides, treads you can see, light before you need it.
Most stair work is small: a rail that runs past the last step, an edge you can see in poor light, a switch at each end. We do those first, and prepare for a lift only when a person needs one.
What's included
Handrails on both sides, continuous past the top and bottom step
Contrasting, slip-resistant edges on every tread
Lights that come on as you move, along the stairs and from bed to bath
Switches at both ends of every stair and hall
Wall, power and landing prepared for a stair lift from your dealer
A landing or a bench where a long stair needs one

What changes the cost
We don't print a price for this work. These decide the number you'll get in writing.
How many stairs, and how they turn
A straight run is simple. A turn or a landing means more rail and more fitting.
The rail
Painted, stained or hardwood, round or flat. We bring samples so you can feel the grip.
Wiring
New switches, circuits and motion lights are done by a licensed electrician we bring in. The scope shows that line.
A lift
A dealer sells and fits the lift. We prepare the wall, the power and the landing, and you get the lift's price from the dealer.
How it goes
- 01
Step 1: Walk every stair with you
We go up and down with you, and mark where a hand falls.
- 02
Step 2: Rails and lights taped on the wall
You see the line of the rail before it's drilled.
- 03
Step 3: Install
Rails are fixed into framing, not just drywall.
- 04
Step 4: Check it at night
We test the lights in the dark, from the bedroom to the bath.
Questions about this work
Do you install stair lifts?
No. A dealer sells and fits the lift. We prepare the stair and the power, so it goes in cleanly.
Can a rail look like it belongs in the house?
Yes. We match the finish to your trim, and a hardwood rail can look like part of the stair.
